---------------------------------------------

Sports Massage, when performed by a competent therapist:

·        prevents muscle and tendon injuries
·        reduces the strain and discomfort of hard training
·        helps eliminate the pain of chronic injuries
·        helps heal acute injuries properly so the injured areas do not become a source of continuing trouble
·        restores lost mobility
·        stops muscle spasms

------------------------------------------------------------

Exercise, by it’s very nature, stresses and strains muscles, ligaments, and tendons.  It is the athlete’s enthusiasm and the demands of sport that create micro-tears, sprains, strains, and even much larger tears.  Sports massage reaches these areas by stimulating circulation, increasing lymphatic flow, breaking up the fibrosis that binds one muscle to another to restrict Range of Motion, relaxing muscle spasm, and relieving pain.

Sports Massage is a form of therapeutic massage that utilizes many different techniques depending on what is to be accomplished.  Whether pre-event as a muscular preparation for exertion or post-event to flush the tissues and lengthen to recalibrate the muscles, it is an invaluable tool to complement training.

When tissue is torn, there is always scar formation between fibers.  This scar formation binds muscle fibers and diminishes mobility and normal movement.  Each fiber must be allowed to function independently for a muscle to reach full flexibility and therefore full power potential.  The scar tissue also reduces blood flow to the area and the body’s ability to flush normal metabolic waste products from the muscles.  Deep tissue massage, myofascial release, and cross fiber frictioning will spread the tissues, break up the scarring, get the needed nutrients to the area, thus helping to undo the harmful effects of sport and injury-induced fibrosis and prevent further damage from occurring.
